GOAL: Experience the Fall harvest and learn lots of ways to use them in meals
The ADVENTURE: Go Apple picking (I hope you already did this-- it might be a little too late in your area now!), and then cook up a tasty apple dish
TIPS/REWARD Suggestions:
Be sure to focus on and notice your kids' creativity.
Let the kids take the lead. Where will you get the apples? What kind of apple will you use? Which apple dishes will you make?
Take time to really enjoy your apple creations! Sit down with the kids and savor the moment. Talk about what you like about each one, or what you could have done differently to get a better result, etc.
Let the kids teach you! Encourage them to explore the different types of apples and learn about their history, what they are best used for, etc. Then let them share what they learned.
Next time you go shopping let the kids amaze you with what they remember about apples, what ideas they have for new apple recipes, etc.
Now is the time to go Apple picking! Whether you go to your backyard or your favorite U-pick, picking apples as a family is TONS of FUN!
Of course, even if you opt to buy a bushel of apples at your favorite fruit stand, you will want to check out some of these fun apple recipes and ideas to work on together as a family.
Caramel Apples . . . and her many varieties. Let the family get creative with these, especially those first 2! Let everyone pick out their own toppings and/or decorate their own way. Use this time to share with each other why you chose what you chose, which toppings each family member likes or doesn't like, etc.
