Family Adventure

GOAL: Enjoy the Fall Colors and the Fall Leaves

The ADVENTURE:

Choose one of the ideas below to use the colored leaves that come with Fall to have fun and bond as a family.

TIPS:

   Let family members help choose the Adventure you complete.

   Keep it fun and simple, even if it involves work. Remember-- this is about family bonding and spending time together.

   Be flexible!  If you are raking leaves plan for a few times of jumping in the leaves and having to start over.

   If you do a Fall craft, hang it in a prominent place where the kids can see that you are proud of their efforts and eager to show off their work.

Fall is the perfect time of year for all kinds of FREE Family Fun. Once those leaves start falling there is a whole world of possibilities that can help families grow closer and build resilience in the process. Choose one or more of the following to enjoy the beautiful Fall leaves around you.

❏  Take a drive through a nearby canyon to enjoy the Fall leaves, or just through a neighborhood that has a variety of trees.

❏  Rake all of those leaves up into a pile and . . . JUMP into them!  Okay-- eventually you will want to put them in bags and put them on the curve to be picked up (or however you dispose of leaves in your area), but be sure to have a TON of FREE Family Fun with them first!  BONUS: Raking leaves is perhaps the most fun and easy way for families to work together, and it provides a great opportunity to teach a myriad lessons of life, including the important lesson that work dosn't have to be drudgery!)

❏ Turn your raking into a service project! See the Community Engagement level Adventure for more ideas.

❏ Crafts using Leaves. There are a myriad crafting ideas involving Fall leaves.  Try one of these, or do a quick internet search and find one that appeals to your family. The searching for ideas together could be half the fun as you laugh at the goofy ideas and pull out the gems. This will also give you a great chance to learn more about what your family members as you see what they like and dislike.

Pre-K Adventure

All of the activities in the basic level are appropriate for our youngest Adventurers, but there are lots of activities that are especially appropriate for little ones. For example:

❏  Use leaves to practice sorting

❏  Use leaves to teach basic math skills

❏  Use leaves to explore art and creativity

Community Engagement Adventure

Take this Adventure to the community by turning it into a service project.

❏ Who on your street needs a little extra help this year raking up their leaves?

❏ Who do you know that could use a lift today? Create a leaf art project with a special message and drop it off with a hug and a smile.

Teen Adventure

Teens are in the perfect position to lead off on this Adventure.

❏ Get your family involved in the basic level Adventures.

❏ Get your friends involved in the basic or community engagement level Adventures.

Choose your favorite activities from the basic level Adventures and help get your family and friends involved.
