Healthy, strong family relationships are foundational to young people’s growth, learning, and well-being.

These relationships build strong social and emotional strengths that kids use throughout their lives.

But great family relationships don’t just happen..

Welcome to My Discovery Destination!

Discovery Family Adventures

where your family can find plenty of opportunities to

The Discovery Family Adventures provide ideas, activities, and experiences to help build strong family relationships.

Our goal is to strengthen family relationships to help kids be and become their best selves

and to support parents in raising happy, successful, resilient kids in an exciting,

but sometimes turbulent and dangerous world.

Core Adventures are still available via the website for use by anyone that wants them, but everyone is encouraged to use the Discovery Hunt (Goosechase) App for hundreds of adventures throughout the year.

Growth Mindset

Family Adventure

GOAL:  Encourage courage, growth mindset, and creativity within our families

The ADVENTURE:   Have each person in your family determine something NEW they want to try. Then complete each of these NEW experiences.

TIPS:

Need some ideas to get you started? Try a new restaurant, a new sport, take a community class, try a yoga video online, meditate, travel somewhere a new way (bike, Uber, Trax, etc.), cook something new, take piano or singing lessons, check out DuoLingo to learn a new language, travel somewhere new, change up a room in your house, or write a story or poem.

Teach your kids the power of "YET". Trying new things can be difficult. When your child says he/she can't do something, follow up with "yet." ("You can't do this YET!") Remember, new things take practice to learn.

Praise EFFORT rather than results! ("I see that you kept trying until you got that basketball in the hoop! Way to persevere!" instead of "You scored!")

Let your kids take the lead! The ideas above are a great starting point if you need ideas, but chances are your kids will have some ideas of their own!

"Psychology Today" outlines four benefits to trying new things:

Trying something new often requires courage.

Trying something new opens up the possibility for you to enjoy something new.

Trying something new keeps you from becoming bored.

Trying something new forces you to grow.

Pre-K Adventure

Follow your child's lead! Some young kids need time to observe before jumping into a new activity, others are ready to dive in head first right from the start.

Community Engagement Adventure

Add a NEW community experience to your list. Check Facebook events for ideas near you and pick one that your family will enjoy!

Teen Adventure

What skills does your teen have that they could teach to another family member?

Maybe they could teach you something they learned in school, or teach a younger sibling how to play a sport! Maybe your teen could give you a lesson in one of their favorite activities.

This lets them take the lead and YOU learn something new!
