Healthy, strong family relationships are foundational to young people’s growth, learning, and well-being.

These relationships build strong social and emotional strengths that kids use throughout their lives.

But great family relationships don’t just happen..

Welcome to My Discovery Destination!

Discovery Family Adventures

where your family can find plenty of opportunities to

The Discovery Family Adventures provide ideas, activities, and experiences to help build strong family relationships.

Our goal is to strengthen family relationships to help kids be and become their best selves

and to support parents in raising happy, successful, resilient kids in an exciting,

but sometimes turbulent and dangerous world.

Core Adventures are still available via the website for use by anyone that wants them, but everyone is encouraged to use the Discovery Hunt (Goosechase) App for hundreds of adventures throughout the year.

Focus for 2025

Family Adventure

GOAL:   Help family members succeed with their New Year's Resolutions by simplifying it down to one word.

The ADVENTURE:  Have each family member identify their ONE WORD for the new year.

TIPS/REWARD Suggestions:

A fun way to reward completion of this Adventure is to acknowledge each family member's 'One Word' in positive ways. For example,

When doodling you could doodle a pretty version of their word and then give it to them.

When you see their word out in the world acknowledge that it has special meaning.

You could have a pancake breakfast and write everyone's word in pancake batter for them.

Recognize when they are living according to their word. For example, if their one word is 'Aware' and you see them help another child who has fallen down you could say, "I can see you are really living by your word to be aware and notice the world around you. That was very nice. I am proud of you for noticing that need."

The key is to acknowledge the word is positive ways that will make them feel good. A word of caution:  Be careful to only acknowledge the word in positive ways and avoid using the word as correction or criticism. For example, refrain from saying (with a sarcastic tone), "Oh- and I thought you were going to be ___ this year! I guess not!"

You can help them remember their word as long as it is done with the right intent, the right tone and attitude, and the child is in a place to accept it that way. For example, if a child is struggling with a tough decision or a difficult behavior you could say something like "Wow! That's a tough one. What would be most congruent with the one word you chose to focus on this year?" OR "I can see that this particular choice is not making you happy. Do you think there is a different choice you could make that would be more in line with your 'One Word'?   As long as you have the right intent and are filled with love, AND the child is in a place to receive it that way, it can be a very helpful tool.

One Word is a simple concept I have been following for the past 15+ years, and it delivers powerful life change and provides people with a better way to become their best and live a life of impact.

Instead of creating endless goals and resolutions, choose one word that will be your driving force for the year 2021. No goals. No wish lists. Just one word. Best of all . . . you can discover your word for the year any time and any where.

The One Word concept helps you to simplify your life and work by focusing on just your one word for the entire year.  That’s right! One Word creates clarity, power, passion and life-change. The simple power of One Word is that it impacts all six dimensions of your life – mental, physical, emotional, relational, spiritual, and financial. Simply put, One Word sticks. There is a word meant for you and when you find it, live it, and share it, your life will become more rewarding and exciting than ever.

Take time to introduce this concept to your family and invite each family member to discover how to harness the transformational power of One Word.
