Healthy, strong family relationships are foundational to young people’s growth, learning, and well-being.

These relationships build strong social and emotional strengths that kids use throughout their lives.

But great family relationships don’t just happen..

Welcome to My Discovery Destination!

Discovery Family Adventures

where your family can find plenty of opportunities to

The Discovery Family Adventures provide ideas, activities, and experiences to help build strong family relationships.

Our goal is to strengthen family relationships to help kids be and become their best selves

and to support parents in raising happy, successful, resilient kids in an exciting,

but sometimes turbulent and dangerous world.

Core Adventures are still available via the website for use by anyone that wants them, but everyone is encouraged to use the Discovery Hunt (Goosechase) App for hundreds of adventures throughout the year.

Sharing Photos

Family Adventure

GOAL:   Help kids learn photography skills while also helping them learn about internet safety and how to take photos that are internet safe.

The ADVENTURE:   Take  a series of internet safe photos.

TIPS:

Let the kids take the lead on this project. Let them make the plan, choose the location, and choose the angles. Be sure to point out all of the great things they do in the process.

Hang some of their favorite pictures from the project up around the house, or even let them create a collage from their pictures. This will reinforce that you enjoy their work.

Have a discussion as a family about what your policies are for posting pictures online. Talk about safety issues and why it is important to be careful about how and where you post your pictures.

There are lots of ways to take pictures without showing any identifiable part of your child. Here are some ideas:

Take a picture of appendages only-- there are some GREAT shots showing only feet:

or hands:

Use angle to obscure identity by taking the picture from the side . . .

. . . from above,

. . . or from the back:

Use lighting to obscure the child's identity . . .

. . . or distance:

You can even use the features on your camera to have a close-up of an object with the kids blurred in the background:

Here is one last idea from one of our Discovery Families. Look how FUN this is! They call it 'Anonymouse', but you could use anything that fits your family to cover up faces.

As you can see, there are many options for getting GREAT pics of your kids without showing their faces or identity.
