Family Adventure
📝 Develop a Strong Family Identity
A member of the Discovery Family Coalition team created the attached picture of his family and sent this description with it:
"I grew up rodeoing and I now show lambs. A western lifestyle has been a huge part of my life. The line up of my family in this picture goes, my dad and mom, me and one of my lambs, my brother, and lastly my sister and our dog Maggie. I also wanted to incorporate the snowy mountains because I feel like that is a huge part of Utah in the winter.'
How would you describe your family in a few sentences?
What creative way could you depict your family?
What is important to your family?
What things about your current family identity do you want to change? or add?
👨👩👧👦 Encourage your kids to draw a picture of the family and then together choose a few sentences that would capture who your family is and what is important to you as family. What a great way to identify, and develop, a strong family identity!
💡
🔸Be sure to really listen to your kids as they describe your family. This is a great opportunity to really learn about what your kids think, what is important to them and how they feel about things
🔸Hang those family pics up on the fridge! Kids love to see that you appreciate their work!
Pre-K Adventure
👶 Let your little ones draw a picture of your family. Stick figures are GREAT! You can even have more than one version of the family photo-- encourage each family member to choose a medium they enjoy and create a family picture using it.
Community Engagement Adventure
🏘 Discuss what community means to your family and what ways you as a family want to, and can, contribute to creating a neighborhood identity.
Teen Adventure
💁♂️ 💁🏻♀️ Encourage teens to share how they view the family and ask them how they would like to be involved in creating and solidifying family identities that are still forming.
